Making a HUGE difference in the life of YOUNG children.

The world is a smaller place thanks to the Internet, global trading and new communication and technology advances. As part of Mentfield’s genuine commitment to cultural diversity, we whole heartedly embrace the fact that with global expansion comes a social responsibility and commitment to supporting those who are less privileged around us.

Amongst many other charitable activities, Mentfield has been supporting Rageltjie-Lighthouse Family Foundation for the past 7 years. This is a small charity organisation where we felt we could make a real difference to the lives of young children, and more importantly, be part of their path.

Rageltjie-Lighthouse Foundation was created when a South African white woman by the name of Andri Fotia started to work in a Squatter Camp in Klapmuts, Western Cape, South Africa, bringing young and homeless children fresh water and food on a weekly basis.

It was not long before the parents of the young children started bringing their children to Andri’s home, begging her to give them a shelter and raise them.

Rageltjie – Lighthouse soon became a warm house for children who otherwise would never have a roof over their heads or hot meal.  In addition to providing a home for those children, the Foundation opens its gates to every weekend, providing additional children with food, activities, clothes and yes, a much desired warm shower…

The children are encouraged to take part in a variety of activities like Judo, Ballroom Dancing, Fishing, not forgetting their school education!

It is heart-warming to observe and be party of this journey, and we look forward to seeing the children grow and achieve, knowing that the Lighthouse has provided them with the foundations for a better future!  It has provided them with a Light for a better way.

Below, a short YouTube clip telling their story.
